So, many of you may wonder why this chapter looks unfinished/missing.
I wrote this many years ago, around the time 1Q84 came out (mentioned in the next chapter). Which I read after having voraciously consumed pretty much all his fiction work. I’ve since read whatever else fiction he’s published since then, and his running memoir, but never returned to this because it was so long between, I’d forgotten all the Murakami-isms that I used to write this.
I did intend to come back to this chapter, or at least reference that I wasn’t going to within chapter six, but never got to it. The reason I had to skip it at all was because I was intentionally doing the two-stories-in-one thing that Murakami does (see, A Hard Boiled Romance and After Dark) where he alternates between with each chapter. But I was so inspired having finished 1Q84 that I wanted to go straight back into the odd-chapter story, where I could talk about it. And, thus, never returned to the even chapters.
The main reason I gave up on this story? I wanted to somehow get it to Murakami. I wanted to get it to him with some kind of package that said Happy Birthday / Merry Christmas on it. But I determined that I pretty much had no way of getting it to him. That made me sad, and I just stopped working on it.
