Emily Dickinson – LXXXVI – HOPE is a subtle glutton

(86)

He feeds upon the fair;
And yet, inspected closely,
What abstinence is there!
His is the halcyon table
That never seats but one,
And whatsoever is consumed
The same amounts remain.
